A letter to Neil Diamond / Una carta a Neil Diamond

Dear and admired Neil Diamond:

Before I begin, I would like to thank you for the creativity, passion, emotions and experiences that you have shared with us since the mid-60s. Thank you for everything.

This morning at 7:15am, Pepa Bueno woke me up with the news that your office had sent to the media, announcing that you see yourself forced to retire from touring after being diagnosed with Parkinson. I know what it may have meant to you to have to cancel the concerts across Australia and New Zealand, countries where you have loads of fans, along with The UK, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Germany. I can only imagine how hard it was to make that decision, considering all the artistic and human aspects of it. You’ve always looked after your fans so much that even now you have preferred to tell us about this before we celebrate your birthday, so we don’t mix the pain and the happiness. What a contradiction! Precisely you’re an expert in transmitting these feelings. 

Apart from wishing you the best recovery, knowing that you’re still committed to writing songs and recording albums, is a splendid present for all of us. I think I can say on behalf of all of us who follow you that the fact that you continue doing this, is the best gift you can give us for your 77th birthday and your 50th anniversary on stage. Thank you again.

One of the wonders that produce the work of an artist, is that their creations are everlasting, and your music already belongs to the Olympus.

Although here in Spain we will not be able to see you in live and there may not be more 'Hot August Nights' nor more demonstrations of love at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, some lucky guys like me will always have Paris, and the memory of that thrilling night on the 7th of June 1977, when we confirmed that the Diamond is forever.

Thank you for being there and Hell yeah! He did!

Querido Neil, admirado Mr. Diamond:

Antes de empezar quiero agradecerte la creatividad, pasión, emociones y experiencias que has compartido con todos los que te seguimos desde aquellos comienzos lejanos a mitad de los 60. Gracias por todo.

Esta mañana a las 7,15 Pepa Bueno me despertaba con la noticia que tu oficina enviaba a los medios en la que anuncias que te ves obligado a dejar las actuaciones en directo porque padeces Parkinson. Sé lo que significa para ti tener que suspender la gira por Australia y Nueva Zelanda, países que tras el tuyo son, junto a el Reino Unido, Irlanda, Países Bajos, Francia, Bélgica y Alemania principalmente, los que mas seguidores tienes. Imagino lo duro que ha tenido que ser tomar esa decisión por todos los aspectos humanos y artísticos. Has mimado tanto a tu audiencia y seguidores que has querido comunicarnos tu estado antes de que celebráramos tu cumpleaños para no mezclar el dolor con los momentos felices. ¡Que contradicción!, precisamente tú que eres uno de los artistas que mejor ha sabido transmitir ambas sensaciones.

Además de desearte la mejor recuperación saber que sigues comprometido con todos para seguir escribiendo canciones y grabando discos es un maravilloso regalo que precisamente tú nos das a nosotros.Creo que puedo decir en nombre de todos los que te seguimos y admiramos como artista que el hecho de que continúes comprometido con trasladarnos mas composiciones es el mejor regalo que nos haces en tu 77 cumpleaños y como extensión de tu 50 aniversario con los escenarios que estamos celebrando. Gracias de nuevo.

Una de las maravillas que produce el trabajo del artista es que sus creaciones son imperecederas, inmortales, y tu en vida ya formas parte del Olimpo musical.

Nos quedaremos en España sin verte en directo, pero sabemos que aunque ya no vayan a producirse mas “cálidas noches de Agosto” o “manifestaciones de amor" en el Teatro Griego de Los Ángeles para algunos afortunados siempre nos quedará aquella emocionante noche del 7 de Junio de 1977 en Paris en la que comprobamos que el “Diamante es para siempre”.

Gracias por seguir ahí y si, ¡Al diablo! lo hizo. ‘Hell Yah! He did.
